EMULATING A RUNOFF OF FRESH PAINT OR CAFÉ FRONTING, THE COVERING OF THE "PARTY OF THREE" CHAIRS REFLECTS THE PLAYFUL AND COLORFUL UNIVERSE OF MEXICAN ARTIST SOFÍA ELÍAS (GUADALAJARA, JALISCO, 1995).
EACH ONE PRODUCED BY HAND, THESE OBJECTS EXPLORE THE IDEA OF PERFECTION WITHIN IMPERFECTIONS, EXALTING THE UNIQUE CHARACTER OF EACH PIECE THROUGH A CLASH BETWEEN FRESHNESS AND THE STICKINESS, THE SOLID AND THE SOFT. AS A CENTRAL THEME IN HER PRACTICE, ELIAS PLAYS WITH THE PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS AND THEIR POSSIBILITIES, CHALLENGING THROUGH HER CREATIONS THE FUNCTIONS AND CONCEPTIONS OF EVERYDAY OBJECTS, TAKING THEM OUT OF A PURELY UTILITARIAN CHARACTER AND BRINGS INTO THE DIMENSION OF SCULPTURE –A SOMEWHAT DESACRALISED SCULPTURE THAT ALLOWS FOR DIRECT INTERACTION WHILE BRINGING A PLAYFUL TONE TO ITS ENVIRONMENT.
